Crochet: Granny Square Tote Bag Purse Part 1 of 6

I'm going to try and make a granny square purse. I had seen it done on one of those knitting shows on tv I always watch. It probaly won't look exactly the same as what I saw, but I'm going to make it anyway. Hopefully I won't run out of yarn. I don't have a pattern or anything, just an idea in my head of how I want it to look. Here goes....

Oprah

I was reading an article in Oprah magazine yesterday. It was the March issue. There was a really good article on these women in prison in Peru. They knit alot of items and then use the money that they receive from the things they make to rebuild the prison they are in. Here's a link to see what kinds of items they make, www.makiwomen.org. Here's also a link to Oprah's website. Maybe the original article might be somewhere on her website, www.oprah.com.

Crochet: Hobo Bag Finished

It's finished but I just don't like it. I messed up on the handles. In the video the handles seamlessly come together with the bag. Mine looks nothing like that.

I'll probably use the bag for now, but I'm going to make a new one. This just does not look right. Thank goodness yarn ain't permanent. I can undo this and try something else. :(

Crochet: Hobo Bag

That's alot of yarn. I don't know why I didn't really take alot of pictures with this project. Maybe because I wasn't sure.

Anyway, I'm trying to make a hobo bag. This is the bag so far.
This is going to be the handle. According to the directions, I am supposed to make this to a certain length, and then turn the bag inside out and then sew this on the inside. Something like that.

Crochet: Big Purple Scarf Finished

Here's the finished project.
I like it.

I couldn't take a picture of the whole scarf laying flat all at once, but it's about 5 feet long.

I'd like to try another one, in another color of course. And maybe try a hat to go with it, from that Simple Crochet book.

Crochet: One More Beret Finished

So, I did finish this one finally.

You would think I would be all beret'd out. But I'm not.

Here's a close up of the beret. It came out kind of fuzzy though.

I saw a video on YouTube for a slouchy beret, and I want to try it.

Side View

Then after the slouchy beret, I will be done with berets for a while.

This is the same as the others. Six inches on the inside of the beret. From one side of the brim to the other.

The back side is 11 inches from one side to another. I guess it was nice to know I could make a hat that has a nice name to it, instead of just "hat".

Crochet: Big Purple Scarf

Here' that big beautiful yarn from JoAnn's Fabrics, that I made the purple beret from. It was so soft to the touch.
I think I chained 100. I wanted it to be about 5 inches long.

Here's the end of the scarf.

So I just started single crochet's here. And I am using a size P crochet hook. I think on the package it said to use a size N, but I didn't have one, so I used this.

Then the rest of it is, double crochet's. I am going to do four rows of double crochet's and then end it, with single crochet's again.

I'm almost finished. Then I am going to add some fringe at the end. I bought 3 skeins (I think that's the right word) of this yarn.

Crochet: Big Purple Beret Finished

So, I bought this big beautiful yarn from JoAnn's Fabrics. I will do a post about it after this one and show the yarn.
I was looking at my favorite website, some time ago. I think I was looking up a video for crocheting a scarf, and I found this really nice simple one.
Then I was thinking how I wanted to make a scarf and hat set.

So here's the hat.

A close up.
I wanted to make this beret above.

But the pattern seemed to complicated. But then I was thinking, I should have at least tried it. So, when I buy this yarn again, I will try and follow the "Chunky Beret" Pattern.
This is the book that the pattern came out of. This pattern said it was for "beginners". I think the part where it said "2sctog" got me kind of cautious. Not scared, just kind of wary. Like I said, earlier, next time I get this nice big yarn, I am going to do this beret pattern, and give it the old college try.

Crochet: Little Yellow Bag

I needed a little bag to put the items that I use in the morning. Like dental floss, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.
I didn't have a pattern for it, I just kind of tried to do something off the top of my head. I think this is one of the neatest things about knitting and crocheting. If I need something, I can grap some yarn from my yarn bag and try and knit something up.

I can't remember how many I chained, just the width of how big my electric toothbrush is, and then the rest of it was just double crochets. The yarn was this beautiful 100% cotton yarn.

It was so soft to knit up. I don't even know if "soft" is the right word to use, but it just worked up so nicely. So smoothly. This yarn was actually supposed to be used for making a dishcloth. At least that's what I'm assuming, because they give a pattern for a dishcloth on the bag of the label of another blue yarn that is similar to this one.

Anyway, here's the bag. I just used a really big needle, that somebody had given me and sewed up the sides. The top I would like to get a zipper for. I figure, I would just sew the zipper just like you would sew it on to any garment.
