I was reading an article in Oprah magazine yesterday. It was the March issue. There was a really good article on these women in prison in Peru. They knit alot of items and then use the money that they receive from the things they make to rebuild the prison they are in. Here's a link to see what kinds of items they make, www.makiwomen.org. Here's also a link to Oprah's website. Maybe the original article might be somewhere on her website, www.oprah.com.

quite interesting..
How interesting! I have had several students who were from Peru, and their mother was a big knitter. I love the colors they use.
That's an amazing thing those women are doing. I'll pop over and check the link. I've been culling my stash (again!) to find yarn to send to someone who is going to Village of Hope in Uganda next month. The link is http://minimalistknitter.typepad.com/mk/2011/03/help-me-help-ugandan-children.html
from minimalistknitter's blog.

Yeah I thought it was interesting too. The article was saying that the reason they are in jail in the first place is because there is not alot of jobs there, and anyway to really make any money is drugs. I think it was saying whether they help someone smuggle it or something along those lines.
